Scripture

31 Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,32 Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was their Husband, says the Lord.33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, says the Lord, I will put My law within them, and on their hearts will I write it; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.34 And they will no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know Me [recognize, understand, and be acquainted with Me], from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will [seriously] remember their sin no more. (Jer 31:31-34 AMPC)

SCRIPTURE

Covenants of God

19 So [as the result of the Messiah’s intervention] they shall [reverently] fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives].(D)20 He shall come as a Redeemer to Zion and to those in Jacob (Israel) who turn from transgression, says the Lord.21 As for Me, this is My covenant or league with them, says the Lord: My Spirit, Who is upon you [and Who writes the law of God inwardly on the heart], and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your [true, spiritual] children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from henceforth and forever.(E) (Is 59:19-22 AMPC)

Now concerning covenants, we find throughout scripture, we find God’s reference to His Covenants. We read the Lord created us in His image. He shaped us with His Fingers, breathing His Spirit in us. In the Beginning, we read how God, created the heavens and the Earth. He spoke these things into being.

Reading in John’s Gospel the 1st chapter we read: – “In the Beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God. Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him, and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out, absorbed it, or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it!]. (Jn 1:1-5 AMPC).

We know our Lord created all things, through the power of His Spoken Word. According to Heb 11 and another Scripture, we are aware that nothing came into being, without Him. He calls those things which are not as if they are. Right in the beginning our Lord had a plan for us. He created us in His image. It’s written: “God created man, male and female created He them. He created us in His own Image.” (See Gen 1:26-31).

He also gave us dominion, i.e. authority over all His Creation. What we said would surely happen. Yet we sold out to; “Le Deceipt.” We heeded the Deceiver, the Enemy of all that is Godly. Due to this fatal decision, we lost out on God’s Supreme plan, dream & vision which He had in mind for us. Our Lord still revealed to us His subsequent plans, for restoring us back to our former state which we had in Him.

When our Lord came in the cool of the day to fellowship with us, He found us hiding from His Presence. Immediately He knew something had gone wrong, giving us equal opportunity to repent. Then He promised us, He would send the Seed of the Woman; Who would shortly crush Satan under His Feet (see Gen 3:9-15; Rom 16:20; 1Cor 2:6-16 & Col 2:8-17).

God’s Plan Revealed

Times & Seasons

God’s Plan Revealed

The Lord revealed His plans to Adam & Eve, while they were still in Eden. Remember in Him (i.e. Christ Jesus), we live and move and have our being. E’en today He first lets His servants, the prophets know, about His Plans before causing them to happen .7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing out revealing His secret to His servants the prophets. (A) (see Amos 3:7 AMPC).

From Scripture we see God’s Scarlet Thread of Redemption, winding throughout our lifetime. Today He is repairing our broken fellowship & restoring our relationship with Him. He is always reaching out to His Fallen Creation. From the start of all things, even until our present day. He gave insight, into Adam & Eve, Noah and his family, Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (Israel).

27 So that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us.28 For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your [own] poets have said, For we are also His offspring.29 Since then we are God’s offspring, we ought not to suppose that Deity (the Godhead) is like gold or silver or stone, [of the nature of] a representation by human art and imagination, or anything constructed or invented. (See Acts 17:27-29 AMPC).

After Israel’s deliverance from Pharaoh, out of Egypt. She entered the Promised Land, with Joshua at the helm after Moses had passed. The Lord led Israel to enter their Promised Possession. E’en so Christ Jesus, came to this world, fulfilling both the Law and the prophets. He is the Seed of the woman (Gen 314-15). He is also Abraham’s Seed. He came to deliver us from the Enemy & Sin’s, mastery o’er us. He became our sacrificial Lamb.

He is the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. He came to restore us back to Himself. He is God in the Flesh. He is the Lamb Who is slain before the foundation of the world. He is the Giver of Life. He was in the Beginning with God, and He is God (see Jn 1:1-18). Nothing came into being without Him (see 1 Jn 1:1-5). Remember our Lord calls the things that are not as if they are. (see Rom 4:15-17).

God of Covenant

the Covenants

God of Covenant

Should we recall from Scripture, we discover right in the beginning, that God established Himself as the God of Covenant. In fact, He is a Covenant God. We see this right at the beginning of time. He is Loving, Holy and Just. Besides Him, there is no other God. He is the Creator of Heaven & Earth. He is the Founder of a better Covenant. From the beginning, He made covenant decisions, with Adam, Abraham, his descendants, Moses, and Israel, as also with David and eventually the New Covenant based on better promises. This scarlet thread runs throughout Scripture.

The Lord our God is Sovereign. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, & Omniscient. His Glory: He shares with no man. In fact, His Love is so Great. He first Loved us. He chose us first; from the beginning of time, He knows of us. Our ev’ry hair is numbered by God. He wants an intimate relationship with us. So much so, that He created us to rule and reign with Him, in this world, this age yea; even in the age and the world to come. It is written as He (our Lord) is so are we in this world.

The psalmist writes, asking the Lord: – “What is man, that You are mindful of him. You made him a little lower than God, (Elohim).”

Psalm 8

(AMPC)

1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your name in all the earth! You

What is man?

have set Your glory on [or above] the heavens.2 Out of the mouths of babes and unweaned infants You have established strength because of Your foes, that You might silence the enemy and the avenger. (A)3 When I view and consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which You have ordained and established,4 What is a man that You are mindful of him, and the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him? 5 Yet You have made him but a little lower than God [or heavenly beings], and You have crowned him with glory and honour.6 You made him have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet:(B)7 All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field,8 The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the seas.9 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your name in all the earth!

We read in Scripture;  the Lord honours His Word above His Name.

1 I will confess and praise You [O God] with my whole heart; before the gods will I sing praises to You.2 I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth and faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!3 In the day when I called, You answered me; and You strengthened me with strength (might and inflexibility to temptation) in my inner self.(Ps 138:1-3 AMPC).

God remains Faithful, and True although we may be unfaithful. We sing of His Faithfulness.  In so doing we confirm, through our Praise & Worship, what a Faithful God we serve. We are promised that His Word is forever settled in the Heavens (see Ps 119:89). God is not a man that He would lie. He is the Way, the Truth, the Life. He is the only Mediator between God and man. There is no other Way for us to be reconciled to God, except through the acceptance of Christ Jesus, as Lord and Master of our lives. Remember all of His Promises are yes and Amen in Christ Jesus (see 2 Cor 19-22).

For this reason, our Lord made a way in the wilderness, where there seems to be no way. The Lord, opens doors which no one is able to shut. He sent His angels out to prepare a way, in the wilderness. Remember God, always remains Faithful, Loving & True. There is nothing hidden from His sight. God’s Word gives us Life. He spoke and it was so. He calls those things which are not as though they are. This is why He made a Covenant with us. Through Christ Jesus our Chief High Priest, we are able to partake of His Covenant.

Scripture has record of seven to eight covenants, which God made with us. In each Covenant our Lord, is and remains the Originator thereof. Every one of them as recorded in Scripture, remains a shadow of the Covenant which came to pass through, Christ’s Death and Resurrection. This Scarlet Cord runs throughout Scripture. ’tis always been God’s Will to draw us to Himself. His will remains the same; that none should perish! For all men everywhere to repent! For our Lord, does not take pleasure in the death of a sinner.

10 And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus you have said: Truly our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we waste away because of them; how then can we live?11 Say to them, As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?12 And you, son of man, say to your people, The uprightness and justice of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; and as for the wicked lawlessness of the wicked lawless, he shall not fall because of it in the day that he turns from his wickedness, neither shall the rigidly upright and just be able to live because of his past righteousness in the day that he sins and misses the mark [in keeping in harmony and right standing with God]. (Ezek 33:10-12 AMPC).8 Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.(A)9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [[a]material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up. (2 Pet 3:8-10 AMPC).31 Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,(E)32 Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was their Husband, says the Lord.33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, says the Lord, I will put My law within them, and on their hearts will I write it; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.34 And they will no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know Me [recognize, understand, and be acquainted with Me], from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will [seriously] remember their sin no more.(F)35 Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, Who stirs up the sea’s roaring billows or stills the waves when they roar—the Lord of hosts is His name: (Jer 31-35 AMPC).

 Covenants of Scripture

Eternal covenant, Heb 13:20—The redemptive covenant before time began, between the Father and the Son. By this covenant we have eternal redemption, an eternal peace from the ‘God of peace’, through the death and resurrection of the Son.Edenic covenant, Gen 1:26-28—The creative covenant between the Triune God, as the first party (Gen 1:26), and newly created man, as the second party, governing man’s creation and life in Edenic innocence. It regulated man’s dominion and subjugation of the earth, and presented a simple test of obedience. The penalty was death.Adamic covenant, Gen 3:14-19—The covenant conditioning fallen man’s life on the earth. Satan’s tool (the serpent) was cursed (Gen 3:14); the first promise of the Redeemer was given (3:15); women’s status was altered (3:16); the earth was cursed (3:17-19); physical and spiritual death resulted (3:19).Noahic covenant, Gen 8:20-9:6—The covenant of human government. Man is to govern his fellowmen for God, indicated by the institution of capital punishment as the supreme judicial power of the state (Gen 9:5-6). Other features included the promise of redemption through the line of Shem (9:26).Abrahamic covenant, Gen 12:1-3; confirmed, 13:14-17; 15:1-7; 17:1-8—The covenant of promise. Abraham’s posterity was to be made a great nation. In him (through Christ) all the families of the earth were to be blessed (Gal 3:16; Jn 8:56-58).Mosaic covenant, Ex 20:1-31:18—The legal covenant, given solely to Israel. It consisted of the commandments (Ex 20:1-26); the judgments (social) – (Ex 21:1; 24:11) and the ordinances (religious); (Ex 24:12-31:18); also called the law. It was a conditional covenant of works, a ministry of ‘condemnation’ and ‘death’ (2 Cor 3:7-9), designed to lead the transgressor (convicted thereby as a sinner) to Christ.Palestinian covenant, Deut 30:1-10—The covenant regulating Israel’s tenure of the land of Canaan. Its prophetic features include dispersion of disobedience (Deut 30:1), future repentance while in dispersion (30:2), the Lord’s return (30:3), the restoration (30:4-5), national conversion (3:6), judgment of Israel’s foes (30:7), national prosperity (30:9). Its blessings are conditioned upon obedience (30:8, 10), but fulfillment is guaranteed by the new covenant.Davidic covenant, 2 Sam 7:4-17, 1 Chr 17:4-15—The kingdom covenant regulating the temporal and eternal rule of David’s posterity. It secures in perpetuity a Davidic ‘house’ or line, a throne, and a kingdom. It was confirmed by divine oath in Ps 89:30-37 and renewed to Mary in Lk 1:31-33. It is fulfilled in Christ as the World’s Saviour and Israel’s coming King (Acts 1:6; Rev 19:16; 20:4-6).

New covenant, Jer 31:31-33; Mt 26:28; Mk 14:24; Lk 22:20; Heb 8:8-12—The covenant of unconditional blessing based upon the finished redemption of Christ. It secures blessing for the church, flowing from the Abrahamic covenant (Gal 3:13-20), and secures all covenant blessings to converted Israel, including those of the Abrahamic, Palestinian, and Davidic covenants. This covenant is unconditional, final and irreversible.
